Fabric Paint Acrylic Set Brightly Art Supplies 12 Colors

Fabric paint allows you to put your art and craft skills to work in your own home. It makes it possible to paint on your clothes, most commonly t-shirts and even other clothes in your house, your cushion covers, your beddings or any other piece of cloth you would like to modify or customize to your own liking. The use of fabric paint is actually pretty straightforward. However, there are some things that you need to ensure you do while painting in order to get the best results for the art you design for your clothes. So what exactly are the recommended steps for using a fabric paint set? Well, here are the most crucial steps you need to take.

Usability

Before you open up that paint set and start painting on clothes, you need to check which kind of fabric is used on that cloth. Well, the fabric that brings out the best results for fabric paint is cotton. Clothes with 100% cotton are mostly preferred to other fabrics. However, it has been discovered that fabric paint also works marvelously with silk and rayon.
After you have checked the fabric used, it is important to check on how the cloth you plan to paint has been woven. In most cases, the clothes which are loosely woven tend to bring out results contrary to your expectations. In order to ensure that your paint does not go to waste, ensure that you choose clothes that are tightly woven in order to avoid dripping of the paint before it dries up to form what you need. After this, you might prefer to wash the cloth in order to get rid of any other material on top of the cloth that might prevent the paint from sticking on the fabric.
Make sure the fabric is completely and perfectly ironed out. This will get rid of the wrinkles that might have developed during washing. Wrinkles will damage your design by interfering with the flow of your paint brush. You do not want this especially considering that there are not do overs.
After this, you can lay your design down on your fabric. This will obviously need concentration and precision. You do not want to regret using fabric paint on your clothes.
After the paint has been set on the cloth and the design fully integrated onto the piece of cloth you decided on, you need to let it dry up. Usually, fabric paint takes a very short time to dry up. It is however recommended that you wait for a minimum of 24 hours to ensure that the paint is fully dried up because failure to do that will destroy your art and your fabric when you continue with the next step.

This next step involves heat; hence the 24 hour drying period. Once the paint is considered completely dry, you need to ensure that you iron the piece of cloth depending on the manufacturer’s recommendation on ironing it. The dry fabric paint will not sieve onto the other side of the cloth, neither will it mix with the other colors creating havoc like it would while still wet.

Advantages of fabric paint

Fabric paint has been associated with more advantages that disadvantages. Here are some:
Ease of use
Fabric paint is very easy to use, compared to other methods such as use of dyes. Fabric paint requires ironing in order to stick it completely to the fabric. This is actually very convenient when you consider the processes you have to go through while using dyes. Unlike fabric paint, dyes require steaming or boiling in order to stick to the fibers.

Safety

Your children will want to paint on their clothes or certain fabrics, just to have fun with colors. As a parent, you can’t stop them but at the same time you need to make sure they are safe doing it. Fabric paint is non-toxic. This means you can be as careless as you want while painting on your clothes. You need not to worry about your health or your children’s.

Opacity

There are fabric paints that are not transparent. This means that you can see what you are painting and you can clearly distinguish one color from another unlike dyes. This makes painting much easier and much more fun that with other methods such as dye.

Fiber texture.

We established that fabric paint works best with wool. However, there are modifications done on certain types of fabric paint that allow for use with other fiber textures.
Disadvantages of fabric paint
There are a few disadvantages that come with fabric paint.

Stiffness

Unlike dyes, which dissolves in the fiber and becomes somewhat part of the fiber, fabric paint stays on top of the fabric. This means that the fabric will have a certain uncomfortable stiffness that doesn’t allow the fabric to move as it used to. The fabric kind of glues the fibers and stiffens them up which can be pretty uncomfortable for anyone wearing the clothes.

Wearing off

Paint, as stated earlier, just dries up and sits on top of the fabric. As a result, the fabric will wear off after being subjected to certain rough conditions such as cleaning by hand or even folding of clothes. The paint, after some time, will develop certain cracks on it and before long, the paint will start wearing off leaving an unpleasant mark on the clothes. In order to avoid this, it is important to try being gentle with the fabric while washing and turning it inside out before putting it in the laundry.

Guidance

There are several additional things you need to consider while painting your cloth.
· When painting your cloth, it is possible for the paint to flow to the other side of the cloth. To prevent this, it is highly recommended that you put a piece of material (plastic or card) between the front and back of the fabric. This ensures that your paint remains on the side it is meant to be on.
· A wet fabric absorbs paint better than a dry one. A wet fabric also allows your paint to blend into each other nicely.
